Tennessee Launches Civil War Black History Month

A new online database and map details the role of black Tennesseans during the Civil War.

Titled the "Landscape of Liberation," the interactive map pinpoints 150 places of interest, including refugee camps, freedmen schools and churches, and enlistment sites for black soldiers.

Those mapped points include narratives, scans of primary source documents and photographs, maps, newspaper clippings and other items from the Tennessee State Library and Archives.

It's online at http://test.tnmap.tn.gov/CivilWar/freedmen/.
